Wild Foods: Uplifting the Indigenous Food Ecosystem

Wild Foods: Uplifting the Indigenous Food Ecosystem

Australia produces some of the most extraordinary food on earth — wild-harvested beef from ancient landscapes, lobster pulled from pristine reefs by free-divers, native botanicals that have sustained communities for tens of thousands of years. And yet most of it never reaches the people who would value it most.

Wild Foods was created to change that. Wild Foods is a First Nations food company building a movement around ‘eating wild’ by providing the commercial infrastructure Indigenous food producers need to reach core markets.

We're building the bridge between Indigenous producers and the kitchens, retailers, and tables that are ready for something different. Our partners are Traditional Owner communities, Indigenous land managers, and First Nations fishers who have been stewarding these food systems long before anyone called it "sustainable."

The Wild Foods model

The challenges facing First Nations producers have never been supply or quality. It's been access. Indigenous producers in remote Australia face enormous barriers getting product to market — logistics, cold chain, compliance, packaging, sales. These are solvable problems, but they require a distributor that understands the landscape and is willing to do the work differently.

That's where Wild Foods comes in. We are the sector enabler designed to support and connect Indigenous-led food ventures across the Indigenous estate. We handle the commercial infrastructure so our producers can focus on what they do best, harvesting world-class food from Country.

We provide the business systems, governance frameworks, compliance and quality infrastructure, market relationships, and the brand mark that carries Indigenous food provenance into national and export channels.

Wild Foods operates as an exclusive distributor, not a buyer-reseller. Producers retain full control of their own products, brand, story and cultural IP. Wild Foods provides the downstream supply chain from processing through to the customer, taking a distribution margin while ensuring producers receive fair, transparent pricing that reflects the true premium value of their products.

The Wild Food producers

The Wild Foods story has begun by working alongside Bush Beef and Salty Monkeys Seafood to bring premium wild-harvested beef and hand-caught tropical rock lobster products to plates around Australia. We will gradually open pathways for other producers, families, and Traditional Owner groups to join the Wild Food network.

About Bush Beef: Premium Wild Harvested Beef

Bush Beef products are sourced from Normanby Station on Cape York Peninsula, operated by the Normanby Aboriginal Corporation on Balnggarrawarra Country, where cattle graze open savanna on native grasses with no grain and no feedlot. Bush Beef is ethically harvested and sustainably farmed, based on Indigenous land management practices spanning tens of thousands of years. Its beef is rich, lean, and packed with bold, clean flavour.

About Salty Monkeys Seafoods: Zenadth Kes Kaiar (Torres Strait Rock Lobster)

Salty Monkeys Seafoods is a 100% Torres Strait Islander-owned enterprise founded and led by Dennis Fay and based on Badu Island in the Torres Strait. Salty Monkeys Seafoods works in close partnership with Traditional Owners who catch tropical rock lobster by hand and carry the cultural authority and lived knowledge of generations who know those reefs.

Every product we distribute is ethically sourced, culturally grounded, and commercially ready. We're a business built on the belief that First Nations food systems deserve proper market access, and that when they get it, everybody benefits.

This is food with a story worth telling, and we're here to make sure it gets heard
